My thanks to all who’ve written to volunteer to test Textpattern. If you wrote and haven’t heard back, it’s because some sloggy code cleanup is eating up time.

I’ve put up a very rough version of the Textpattern home page. It isn’t terribly informative yet but it’ll be a reliable place to find status updates and whatnot, and I can return this site to its rightful purpose, that being the playground of an arrogant prick.

Some questions were posed:

What’s required?
An account with a hosting provider who offers PHP and a MySQL database. Pair.com is rather good, incidentally.

Will it support plugins?
Anyone with experience processing text with PHP functions can write plugins for Textpattern. These can be put to use selectively or entirely on published pages.

How will it be licensed?
Free for personal use, fee-based corporate licences, but otherwise I’m not sure. I’d be grateful at this stage for input from anyone who’s taken a long hard look at both Creative Commons and the GPL for this sort of thing. Contracts nauseate me.

Am I gunning for MT.
Oh fuck no. Ben and Mena have a beautiful, powerful thing with Movable Type, and long may it thrive and grow. My hope is that Textpattern can complement MT’s presence in the world, nothing more.

Okay, back at it.
