Holy crap. How did THAT get in there? You feeding Oliver 2×4s again?
– Sara at 12:10 am, 09 Mar 06
Wow! I hope that ruler is showing centimetres, not inches! Poor Oliver – but he’s doing a fabulous job of carrying off that scarf – very Audrey Hepburn, Ollie.
– formerly dogless joe at 12:24 am, 09 Mar 06
YIPES! Was that related to the “um… drained gland?”
Ya know, sometimes ya’ just can’t trust them there doggies… they get obstructions from greenies & tennis balls, choke on rawhides, get teeth caught on buddy’s collar and (nearly) strangle buddy, wolf down entire rolls of paper toweling, and stuff themselves on polyfill pillows. What the heck would they do without us? I’ve heard it’s part of a conspiracy between dogs & vets but I dunno…..
– bonita at 12:44 am, 09 Mar 06
Oh poor lad – glad your vet has finally found it and it’s out of his throat. I must say he is looking very resigned and dignified about his ordeal at the vets. Hugo will be wanting a trendy scarf too !! Hope you have pet insurance !!!!
– pennyj at 12:47 am, 09 Mar 06
ps. explain to OLLIE that JAVELINS are for throwing and that the sharp end goes forward – less chance of getting impaled that way !!
– pennyj at 12:54 am, 09 Mar 06
omg…poor Oliver.
is that a scarf/bandage with little paw prints on it?
– tracy at 1:00 am, 09 Mar 06
...holy m a r d e !!
put that mulcher on a leash
– em at 1:13 am, 09 Mar 06
Poor angelic Oliver, he never meant to get poked by that stick (although it does look like a tasty bone in that picture).
– Pete at 1:24 am, 09 Mar 06
POORPOOR OLLIE! What measurement system is that ruler? Way to look good through it all!
– Heinz57Dog at 1:30 am, 09 Mar 06
And you know the first thing he is gonna do when he goes for a walk? Eat a stick. Poor Ollie. Bogart sends his regards.
– bluffnbarb at 1:56 am, 09 Mar 06
Whew. Thought it was bad when my Fritz got a pencil stuck up on the roof of his mouth, between his jaw, but this looks AWFULLY painful. Hugs and scritches to Oliver, who looks stoic but relieved.
– mummydog at 3:17 am, 09 Mar 06
Recall that this is Oliver’s second life-saving surgery. See 9/11/2003.

– Empress at 4:57 am, 09 Mar 06
I hope everybody is recovering nicely. That’s a big stick.
– blurb at 5:21 am, 09 Mar 06
OW poor Oliver. The poodles here advise that he get just a few special small treats to aide in recovery. Their suggestions are fries, cheese pizza bites and a choice bit of bacon.
– martina at 5:23 am, 09 Mar 06
Awww, man. And you just know Charles Darwin would have something to say about this.
Poor baby.
– nancy at 1:51 pm, 09 Mar 06
Bless his heart and yours. He waas suffering and couldn’t give you details, and you were suffering because he was suffering.
At least he looks very cosmopolitan and chic in that scarf.
– Jagosaurus at 2:25 pm, 09 Mar 06
Oli Oli ! Poor lad ! Hey y’all—unless it’s a weird inch-ruler, it’s centimeters. Those are tenths, not sixteenths. Bravi to Dean’n’Gail for getting Oli relieved of the big splinter !
– sue of blue ridge mtns at 2:50 pm, 09 Mar 06
I honestly thought at first that it was a picture of bacon.
So glad that Oliver is on the mend!
– strass at 3:01 pm, 09 Mar 06

At least he didn’t swallow two corn cobs (whole) that you didn’t find out about until about a month later when it caused a terrible illness and a very expensive surgery!!! Weims and boxers – kindred spirits.
– DogLover at 6:03 pm, 09 Mar 06
And the evil splinter is vanquished…
– Laurie at 7:45 pm, 09 Mar 06
OMG! I hope my dog never “eats” something like that.
How awful for him. Is he trying the Jude Law look with the sash? Maybe he heard he can score a nanny with that look! ;)
Hope he recovers quickly…
– Jen at 8:39 pm, 09 Mar 06
